City Court of East St. Tammany - Slidell Records

The court that most people in Slidell know as "Slidell city court" officially changed its name in 2020 to the City Court of East St. Tammany. When Judge Bryan D. Haggerty took office that year, he renamed the court to better reflect its actual jurisdiction, which covers all of Wards 8 and 9 of St. Tammany Parish rather than just the city of Slidell. In practice, this means the court handles cases from across the East St. Tammany area.

This city court is a court of record and handles a wide range of case types. On the criminal side, it takes traffic violations and DWI cases, adult criminal matters including domestic violence, drug possession, and theft, and juvenile cases including felonies, misdemeanors, and matters such as Child in Need of Care and Families in Need of Service. Adoptions also go through this court.

Civil jurisdiction at the City Court of East St. Tammany extends up to $50,000 in dispute. Small claims cases, where the amount in dispute is $5,000 or less, are also heard here. This broad civil jurisdiction means many cases that might go to district court elsewhere in Louisiana can stay at city court level in Slidell.

St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court - Slidell Annex

The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court maintains an annex in Slidell that serves residents on the east side of the parish. This location holds district court records for cases filed with the 22nd Judicial District Court in the Slidell area. The Slidell Annex is the most convenient option for Slidell residents who need district-level records without driving to Covington.

District court records include felony criminal cases, major civil suits above city court limits, domestic matters such as divorce decrees and custody orders, and succession records. These are filed with the clerk and are part of the public record once a case is opened, subject to any court orders limiting access.

Under La. R.S. 44:31, any person may request to inspect or copy public records. The clerk must respond promptly and state any denial in writing with a legal basis. Most court records are available unless a judge has specifically ordered otherwise.
