Iberia Parish Quick Facts
Iberia Parish Clerk of Court
David Ditch serves as Clerk of Court for Iberia Parish. The office sits at 300 Iberia Street, Suite 100 in New Iberia and acts as the official keeper of all court records for the 16th Judicial District. The clerk handles civil suits, criminal proceedings, conveyance records, mortgage filings, and probate matters for the parish.
One thing worth knowing: the office funds itself through fees collected for services. No ad valorem tax revenue supports day-to-day operations. That means the fees paid when you request copies or access records online go directly toward keeping the office running. This structure is common among Louisiana clerks and reflects how these offices operate statewide.
The clerk's website at iberiaclerk.com provides the most current information on access options, portal subscriptions, and e-recording procedures. For subscription questions, email wrobison@iberiaclerk.com.

Two Portals for Iberia Parish Court Records
Iberia Parish uses two separate online systems. Most Louisiana parishes use one. Here, each portal covers a different set of records, and a subscription to one does not carry over to the other -- but the clerk's office has confirmed that if you pay on one site, you do not need to pay on the other.
The first is Clerk Connect. This portal handles civil records from January 1, 1980 to the present and criminal records going back to November 30, 1959. This is where you go to look up court cases, check case status, or find a criminal filing. E-filing for civil and criminal documents is also hosted through Clerk Connect.
The second is E-ClerksLA. This portal holds conveyance records from 1868 forward and mortgage records from January 1, 1959 to the present. Land records, property transfers, and mortgage filings all live here. E-recording for mortgage and conveyance documents also runs through E-ClerksLA. As of January 1, 2022, the Iberia Parish Clerk no longer accepts Simplifile or CSC for e-recordings -- all electronic document submissions must go through E-ClerksLA directly.
Make sure you are using the right portal for the record type you need. If you are unsure, call (337) 365-7282 or email the clerk's office before purchasing a subscription.
The online subscriptions page at iberiaclerk.com walks through both portals and what each covers for Iberia Parish court records access.
The subscriptions page confirms the two-portal setup and explains how the shared subscription model works for civil, criminal, and land records in Iberia Parish.
Iberia Parish Civil and Criminal Court Records
Civil court records in Iberia Parish include lawsuits, judgments, domestic filings, custody matters, and civil appeals. These records date back to January 1, 1980 in Clerk Connect. Criminal records extend further, with entries available from November 30, 1959 through the present. For anything older than those dates, an in-person request at the courthouse is the right path.
When searching Clerk Connect for Iberia Parish civil or criminal records, you can look up cases by party name, case number, or filing date. Free index results show basic case details. Full document image access requires a paid subscription through the portal. The depth of criminal records -- going back to 1959 -- is notable and makes Iberia Parish one of the more historically accessible court record sets in the 16th Judicial District.
Under La. R.S. 44:31, any person has the right to request access to public records from the custodian. The clerk must respond and either provide the record or cite a specific legal exemption. Most civil and criminal court records in Iberia Parish are public. Juvenile files and sealed cases are the main exceptions.
Note: If a party may have cases in more than one parish, you will need to check each parish separately. There is no single statewide criminal court database that combines all district court records.
Land and Property Records in Iberia Parish
Land records in Iberia Parish go back to 1868 in E-ClerksLA. Conveyance records from that year cover property sales and transfers. Mortgage records are available from January 1, 1959 forward. These records include liens, financing instruments, and UCC filings tied to real property in the parish. Tracing property ownership in Iberia Parish through more than 150 years of records is possible entirely through the online portal.
E-recording through E-ClerksLA lets attorneys, lenders, and title companies submit documents electronically. Simplifile and CSC are no longer accepted as of January 1, 2022. All e-recording must go through E-ClerksLA. The clerk's e-recording page explains the process in detail.
Under La. R.S. 44:32, custodians of public records must allow inspection and copying during regular business hours. Land records held by the Iberia Parish Clerk fall within this rule. You can inspect them online or in person -- both are valid access paths.
The e-recording services page at iberiaclerk.com explains how to submit conveyance and mortgage documents through E-ClerksLA for Iberia Parish filings.
The e-recording page covers the requirements for electronic submission of mortgage and conveyance documents through the E-ClerksLA portal, including the change that took effect January 1, 2022.
Public Records Rights and Louisiana Law
Louisiana's public records law defines what counts as a public record and sets out the access rights every person holds. Under La. R.S. 44:1, a public record includes any document made or kept by a public body in the course of its official duties. Court records held by the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court fall squarely within this definition. The default is access, not restriction.
You do not need to explain why you want a record or prove any legal interest in a case. The burden falls on the clerk to identify a specific exemption if one applies. For most civil filings, criminal case records, conveyances, and mortgage documents in Iberia Parish, no exemption applies. Records sealed by court order, juvenile files, and certain sensitive proceedings are restricted, but these are the exception, not the rule.
La. R.S. 13:507 affirms that court records in Louisiana are public. This applies to Iberia Parish court records just as it does to any other parish in the state. The Iberia Parish Clerk is obligated to provide access under both the public records statutes and the court records statutes that govern Louisiana's district courts.
Requesting Iberia Parish Court Records by Mail or In Person
Not every record is available online. Older case files, physical exhibits, and some sealed documents can only be obtained by visiting the clerk's office at 300 Iberia Street or sending a written request by mail. When you request by mail, include the case number or party name, the type of document you need, and a check or money order for the applicable copy fee.
Copy fees in Louisiana are governed in part by La. R.S. 44:33.1, which sets limits on what agencies may charge for public record copies. Standard rates are typically $1.00 per page for plain copies. Certified copies -- those with the clerk's official seal for legal use -- generally cost more per page. Call (337) 365-7282 to confirm current fees before mailing any payment.
In-person requests are handled at the courthouse Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Staff can assist with searches for case files, land records, and other documents in the clerk's custody. No appointment is needed for most routine records requests in Iberia Parish.
Note: For subscription questions or e-recording help, email wrobison@iberiaclerk.com rather than calling. The clerk's staff can also guide you to the right portal if you are unsure whether your record type is in Clerk Connect or E-ClerksLA.
